Welcome to Ghost Town

Though it may be difficult to believe by looking at it today, Provincetown was once a place of hustle and bustle, buzzing with hope and excitement. Many families settled here in the early 1700s, arriving with the prospect of good incomes from the booming fishing and whaling industries. The townsfolk rode that wave of good fortune for several years, and were blessed with wealth and prosperity. But then everything changed and all was lost, in just one night of unfathomable terror. On the fateful night of October 31, 1736, Provincetown went from being a prosperous town of the living to a frightful town of the dead. It was then that a dense bank of fog rolled in under the black, moonless night sky, giving pirate Captain Davy Flint the opportunity he had been waiting for. See, word had gotten to Captain Davy Flint that Provincetown was brimming with wealth for the taking, and he and his crew of rapscallions aboard The Red Dawn were waiting patiently off shore for the ideal moment to strike. Masked by the fog, they rolled in that very evening like a pack of killer dogs, pillaging and plundering everything in site. The townsfolk tried to hold their ground, but the surprise attack was more than they could bear, and residents were slaughtered like helpless cattle with a fair amount of pirates killed in the melee as well. The town was stripped of its riches and set ablaze, with the few survivors fleeing to safer havens. The town never did recover from this terrible night, and remains, to this day, an uninhabited place that's unsuitable for the living. Burned buildings, forced into decay from years of weathering and neglect, stand crookedly looming over empty streets, the air around them heavy and lifeless with the imprint of death. Today, locals from the surrounding towns believe that the ghosts of Provincetown's dead inhabitants are still looking for revenge. They say that October 31st and the days surrounding it bring a strange and eerie fog, and that blood-curdling screams can be heard piercing the air as angry spirits roam empty streets. They say the dead have come back to claim their town—and that they have come to seek revenge. And so, as you make your visit to the ghost town of Provincetown, just beware of the perils that may lie in wait.
